Dissolve yeast cakes and 1/8 cup sugar in water. Scald milk and cool to lukewarm. Add vanilla, shortening, 3/4 cup sugar, eggs, and salt. Add yeast. Add flour. Beat well and add enough flour to make soft batter. (It sort of forms a ball.) You don't need to use your hands to mix. Stir with a large spoon. Cover with plate. Set in refrigerator overnight or 3 hours to rise. Remove and roll out thin. Spread melted butter over dough with pastry brush. Mix 1 cup sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle over buttered dough. Roll dough and cut with thread. (A knife will shred dough.) Put rolls on pan and let rise for 1 1/2-2 hours. Bake in 375°-400° oven for 10-15 minutes. Check often. Frost with vanilla frosting when cooled.
