You can use round steak, tenderized round steak instead of cube steak (which is pricy). If using round steak cut in pieces about the size of your hand and flour a lot, pounding the flour into the meat with a side of a heavy saucer. Whatever you use, flour then let it lay for a few minutes then flour again then brown meat in oi in skillet. For Kenneth and I, a couple pounds of meat was about right. If using less, you can reduce the other ingredients some.
While meat is browning, put the rest of the ingredients in a heavy pan with a lid. add the browned meat and bake in oven about 2 hrs at 325. You can also cook on top of stove....very slowly. If gravy is not as thick as you like, mix a little corn starch or flour with cold watr and stir in slowly. Serve with mashed potatoes. This is one of mine and Kenneth's favorites.
