I've found that the Nestle recipe is the best ever. The thing that makes my cookies so good is the butter flavored Crisco block; this comes in a three pack. Do not forget the 2 tbs of water, the package indicates this. I also use a mixture of semi-sweet, dark, white and milk chocolate chips to total 2 cups, versus the 1 3/4 cups the Nestle package calls for.
Follow the directions exactly by Nestle, meaning you DO want to mix the wet ingredients separate from the dry. This does make a difference. Also make SURE that your baking soda is NOT old, this makes a difference in whether your cookies are flat or puffy. In this recipe I used baking soda, while well sealed and expiration date is not for a year yet, but still the cookies were kind of flat. Date your baking soda box when you open it.
Extra vanilla will not hurt the cookies, you can even add a little extra almond extract to give a tiny flavor variation. These cookies freeze well.
