|
sift first 9 ingredients in a large bowl. beat butter in electric mixer at medium speed until creamy. add brown sugar to butter, and mix for 1 minute. reduce to a low speed and add in vanilla. add flour mixture and beat just until mixed in.

gather dough into a ball. divide the ball in half and flatten each into a disk. wrap disks separately and chill until firm (at least 4 hours).

position a rack in the center of the oven, and preheat to 350 degrees F. line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper. roll out the dough between two pieces of wax paper. cut out cookies with cookie cutters. space 1 inch apart on baking sheets.

bake one sheet at a time until firm on top, about 8-12 minutes. coolcompletely on a rack.
