In a skillet, brown chicken in butter seasoned with salt and pepper. Remove chicken and place into greased 9x13 pan.
In the drippings, sauté onions and celery until tender. Add cranberry sauce and barbecue sauce; mix well. Pour over the chicken and bake uncovered at 350º for about 1 ½ hours – until juices run clear. Baste every 15 minutes.
