In a large mixing bowl, beat butter, shortening and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine the flour, baking powder, sinnamon, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.
Spoon half of the batter into a greased 13-in.X9-in.x2-in. baking dish. Tope with apple slices; spread with remaining batter.
Ina a small bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar and cinnamon; cut in butter until crumbly. stir in walnuts. Sprinkle over batter. Bake at 350 degrees for 55-60 mins or until a toothpick inserted near center comes out clean.
