Rub butter over the bottom of a 13x9 baking dish.
Put half of the pasta in the baking dish. Sprinkle with half of the cheddar cheese, take a fork to work the cheese into the pasta. Repeat, pasta and cheese. Add one teaspoon salt to the milk and egg mixture. Pour mixture over pasta. Add enough white milk to cover the pasta. Slice cheddar cheese over the top of the pasta add pats of butter between the cheese slices. Sprinkle with pepper.
