Heat oven to 350. Grease a 2 qt casserole. Bring water to a boil, slowly stir in grits and salt. Return to a boil, reduce heat, simmer 2-4 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat. Cover, let stand 5 minutes. Stir in remaining ingredients, mix well. Pour into prepared casserole. Bake 50-60 minutes, or until a knife inserted in the middle comes out clean.
Garnish with whipped cream or pecan halves.
I used to make it with pecan meal, just chop up the pecans in the blender. Gives the flavor without the chunks, that some people don't like.
