Preheat oven to 450 F. Lightly grease a 15x10 inch pan.
Combine the oats, sugar, butter, corn syrup, vanilla and salt and mix well. Press the mixture into the pan, using lightly greased hands.
Bake the squares for 12-15 minutes or til light golden brown. Remove from oven and cool completely on a wire rack.
Melt chocolate chips and shortening together in a MW, stirring til smooth. Spread mixture evenly over oat base and sprinkle on chopped nuts. Cover loosely and chill until the chocolate is firm. Remove and cut into squares. 96 small pieces.
