Combine milk, sugar, and salt in saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil and book 4 - 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Start timing when mixture starts bubbling around edges of pan. Remove from heat.
Add marshmallows, chocolate, and vanilla. Stir vigorously for 1 minute until completely blended.
Pour into 8 inch square buttered pan. Garnish with nuts if desired. Cool and cut into squares.
