Preheat oven to 375. Combine crisco, brown sugar, vanilla and milk in a large bowl. Beat at medium speed until creamy. Beat egg into mixture. Combine dry ingredients in a small bowl and then add to creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate chips and/or nuts. Drop by rounded T onto a ungreased baking sheet. We use parchment paper. Bake for 8-10 minutes. They will appear moist, do not overbake. Cool on baking sheet 2 minutes, remove to cooling rack.
