Sift flour into large bowl.

|
Place shortening in middle of flour and blend with
fork or pastry blender until mixture becomes
crumbly.

Add 1/2 cup butter and mix with fork just until
mixture combines (add remaining buttermilk if needed
to incorporate all flour) Do not overmix (biscuits
will not be as light and fluffy if worked too much)

|
On lightly floured board shape into oval and press
to 1 inch thickness. Cut with round cutter (I
prefer a small cutter) Place biscuits on lightly
greased cast iron skillet or skillet sprayed with
Pam. Bake in preheated 450 degree oven until
biscuits are brown (10-15 minutes) Brush tops of
hot biscuits with melted butter.
