Christmas for the sproul family meant all of my mother's five brothers and sisters would show up with everyone of thier family members in toe. When finally all twenty-something of us were there, we would cram ourselves into the dinning room and shuffel our way around the table that was two sizes too small. Babies would be crying, parents would be yelling, and the kids... well we would be stairing at the oven waiting for what seemed like eternity. Finally, my mother would get up and check the pie, and that sweet smell of succulent meat and potatoes would come rushing out. Now, whenever i smell sheppards pie i think of my crazy christmas dinners at my grandmothers house. I hope this recipie brings you as much joy as it brought me; this is how you make my mother's shepards pie-
First, mix the ground meat, potatoes, carrots, peas, garlic salt, and onion powder. mix carefully as to not break the carrots.
take the potatoes and skin them, then boil till tender. add butter and half and half, then mash all together till creamy.
Put all meat at the bottom of the casserol dish, then top off with potatoes. bake for 1 hour. then broil on high for 2 mins.
