Defrost hash browns and combine in a large bowl with 1/2 cup margarine, salt and pepper.
Add onions, soup, sour cream and cheese.Blend well!
Pour into buttered 9 X 13 pan/
Mix 1/4 cup melted margarine or butter with crushed corn flakes and sprinkle over the top. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. (May be may a day ahead and cooked when you need it!)
