Slice onions thinly (I prefer them chopped) . Fry onion in butter or oil until golden. Pour
water and cubes, or stock, over onions. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika.
Bring just to the boiling point, and remove from the heat.
If desired, slice hard rolls thinly, sprinkle with Parmesan cheese and broil till cheese melts.
Float bread on top of soup.
